How better to learn about Alpro than to talk with the people that work there? We asked a few of our employees how they contribute to the quality and success of our business every day.
Heinz - Order Processing Manager in the Customer Service Department "The organisation actively encourages internal mobility, it brings added value to both the employee and the company."
Heinz has been with Alpro since 1997 and can testify that the idea of internal mobility is no vain notion at Alpro. He started by implementing SAP logistical modules, before being given the chance to work as a management accountant in finance. He then became Sales Manager Iberica, selling to retail and health food outlets. In July 2005, Heinz was promoted to Order Processing Manager, overseeing 8 people.
Heinz: “ As Alpro works in different domains (logistics, finance and sales), being able to experience them is a very enriching opportunity for me. I have a broad vision of the organisation and can approach projects from different angles: what is critical for the client and what is important from a financial viewpoint. This is not just an asset for me in my role. It’s also an added value for Alpro. The management team realises this too, and encourages me to meet new challenges. It’s great working in an organisation that lets you steer your career.”
Grégory - Operator in our plant in Issenheim (France). "There’s a great team atmosphere in all the Alpro manufacturing plants"
Grégory started working in our Issenheim factory in September 2001. He combined his studies with a part-time job with Alpro. After getting his degree in 2003, he went for a full-time job as a technician.
Grégory: "In 2001, I made a deliberate choice to work with Alpro. I find it’s great to work in a factory that uses the latest technology and makes innovative products. When I started, I got a lot of on-the-job training that allowed me to grow. At times, I also got some external training. What is good is not just what you learn, but also the close contact with colleagues from other departments. This spreads the team spirit across teams. There’s a great team atmosphere in all the Alpro manufacturing sites.. Even when I started as a trainee, I always got the impression that people treated me as a true member of the team."
Delphine - Secretary with the Research & Development Department. "Communication is open at Alpro, and you earn trust when you do your job well."
Delphine joined us in 1998, almost immediately after leaving studies. She started as a secretary for the Quality Control and R&D divisions. Alpro's rapid growth increased the workload, leading her to choose between the services. Delphine opted for the R&D department.
Delphine: " I have always appreciated that I could choose which department I wanted to work with. I chose R&D as the work is always challenging and you’re in constant contact with new things. I also appreciate that I’m given a lot of freedom by my room by my manager. It feels good to know that people trust you, and I do all I can to not let this trust go. There’s a great atmosphere in our department. If someone has something to say, they can do so openly, motivating the team. This open communication is an Alpro trademark: not only within our team but also in the monthly information about management issues and the financial results. This means that you can provide service for the people you work with as you know what’s important."
Dirk - Commercial Manager for the Netherlands (Breda) "Together, we are building a future of growth and values."
Dirk joined Alpro as a Sales Manager in 2003. In 2005, he supervised the expansion of the new marketing and sales organisation.
Dirk: "For me, Alpro is far more than a creator of jobs or soya products. The company doesn’t just broadcast its values, it believes in applying them. I feel this not only in the way we deal with employees and clients, but also in the way we handle raw materials and the planet. Sustainable development and respect for the environment are not empty promises for us. So an important part of working with Alpro is also the excitement of discovery, where you’re always being encouraged to push the boundaries. In my case, literally and figuratively. When I started as a sales manager, I was responsible for building the Alpro brand in Italy, Israel and Switzerland. In 2005, I was asked to start up new Alpro operations in the Netherlands. This is a very enriching experience, where the development of opportunities for the business is as important as building the team. ‘Building our future!’, one day at a time."
Bardya - Product Manager - Marketing Düsseldorf "My challenge: the positioning of Provamel in the German market"
Bardya started his career at Alpro in Germany with a 6 months marketing internship. After graduating from university in 2003, he has been employed as a Product Manager responsible for the health food brand Provamel.
"Since I have been working at Alpro, no two days are ever the same. My job is full of variety. Every day, I encounter new challenges. I am responsible for the positioning of the Provamel brand in the German market, and ensuring that we become an important brand in the health food sector. It's nice to create sustainable long-term relationships with the wholesalers and the owners of the health food shops. In close collaboration with my colleagues, I have organised a Provamel academy for our customers. By investing in long-term relationships and running focused campaigns, we have become one of the top 5 brands in Germany's health food sector. The Provamel team works together to move the brand a step ahead. They always give me the help and support I need. Besides that, the collaboration with the marketeers in the headquarters in Belgium stimulates me, giving me a lot of creative ideas. It's nice to collaborate in a constructive way with my national and international colleagues."
Steve - Team Leader Production - Kettering (UK) "Working at Alpro is being part of a winning team."
Steve joined Alpro in March 2000, bringing to the company 20 years experience and a strong understanding of the food processing industry. He is responsible for controlling a shift of 12 staff, maintaining quality, hitting planned targets and reacting quickly to unforeseen breakdowns.
Steve:" When I started in 2000, I was trained in France and Belgium whilst the factory was being built in Kettering. As a team leader, my biggest challenge is reducing unplanned downtime. I have achieved a certificate of Team Leadership, standardising the way of thinking, acting and working. I also attended Health and Safety courses, a function I now look after for the production department. I am also an active member of the annual Vandemoortele Group International Forum. I enjoy the challenges Alpro brings me, in respect of new product innovation, installations and the growth plans for the future. I feel a valued member of the team and welcome the communication across all departments both in the UK and Europe. Working at Alpro means being part of a winning team, we are the market leader and it is great to be part of the success story, present and future."
