Our ethical approach
How could we care for the soya bean and our products while ignoring the situation of many communities in the producing countries? Alpro favours long term commitments with the farmers around the globe. This gives them a measure of stability, also protecting them from the disastrous consequences of a single crop failure. We ensure that the producers enjoy decent housing, don't allow child labour and respect environmental standards.
Alpro also supports several development projects such as the EDHUCCA* education project in Brazil. This program aims to provide a better future for the community by training youngsters and other people in need of support. The aim is to reduce the temptation to drop out of school and increase the individuals’ possibility of finding employment. The Farmer’s Day events give farmers in Brazil and Canada yearly support. In Africa, the Vitagoat food project is promoting small-scale systems to produce protein-rich soya milk without electricity or streaming water. The goal is to increase the effectiveness of local production, increase nourishment and promote the local economy while respecting the precious natural resources.
Alpro also supports the United Fund for Belgium, an organisation which improves the quality of life of people in need, by contributions of the Belgian companies. The contributions are distributed in an efficient and just manner to one of the humanitarian, social and medical charity projects which are cautiously selected all over the country.
